Introduction
Alexander Colsmann has been working on thin-film solar cells for 20 years. Since 2020, Alexander is Professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), heading a multidisciplinary research team on photovoltaics. He is member of the board of directors at KIT’s Material Research Center for Energy Systems (MZE) and spokesperson of the Topic “Energy Supply” within the KIT-Energy Center.
His research interests include organic solar cells, perovskite solar cells, novel materials for light-harvesting, semi-transparent solar cells for building integration and mobile applications, photo-catalysis, printable electrodes, charge carrier transport layers and electrical doping of organic semiconductors.
Solar TAP Project
Contribution to Solar TAP:
Our R&D activities span from fundamental processes in semiconductors to device engineering and innovative application design. We encompass eco-friendly materials in all production processes for thin-film photovoltaics which we will advance to the next level together with industry partners within SolarTAP. Avoiding critical materials, we focus on organic solar cells and perovskite-inspired materials. Our unique expertise is the fabrication of efficient and stable organic light-harvesting layers from aqueous or alcoholic nanoparticle dispersions.
Uniqueness of Solar TAP:
I am convinced that the challenges ahead of us require a close collaboration of academia and industry across all disciplines. SolarTAP is a unique platform in Germany and Europe to bring all important players together and revive a European solar industry for most independence from international suppliers.
