Introduction
Prof. Dr. Thomas Kirchartz is currently a professor of electrical engineering and information technology at the University Duisburg-Essen and the head of the department of Analytics and Simulation and the group of Organic and Hybrid Solar Cells at the Research Centre Jülich (Institute for Energy and Climate Research).
Previously, he worked as a Junior Research Fellow at Imperial College London within the group of Prof. Jenny Nelson. His research interests include all aspects regarding the fundamental understanding of photovoltaic devices, including their characterization and simulation. Within SolarTap, he is mainly involved in the development of a digital twin for solution processable photovoltaic devices, with a focus on the electrical description of the solar cell.
Solar TAP Project
Contribution to Solar TAP:
Prof. Kirchartz` background on device physics and solar cell simulations allows him to contribute to the development of digital twins for photovoltaic devices.
Uniqueness of Solar TAP:
Solar TAP connects research that ranges from very fundamental work on semiconductor physics up to applied work on solar module integration and agrivoltaics to companies. Thereby it helps transferring ideas in academia to useful products.
