Introduction
Uli Schurr is a plant physiologist and heads the Institute of Plant Sciences at Forschungszentrum Jülich. The institute is a leading institute in plant phenotyping, developing quantitative methods for analyzing plant architecture and function in controlled environmental conditions and in the field, and translating these methods with partners into practical applications in horticulture, agriculture, and breeding.
He initiated and coordinates the German Plant Phenotyping Network DPPN and he is the chairman of the ESFRI project EMPHASIS and the president of the global International Plant Phenotyping Network (IPPN).
Uli Schurr has been leading the Bioeconomy Science Cente, the largest European research network on sustainable bioeconomy based on the cooperation of the Universities of Bonn, Aachen, Düsseldorf and the Research Center Jülich, for 10 years. He initiated the BioeconomieREVIER initiative to establish a model region for sustainable bioeconomy in Germany. He is excited to link bioeconomy with photovoltaics in the context of Agri-Photovoltaics, Greenhouses and circular economy within the Solar TAP innovation platform.
Solar TAP Project
Contribution to Solar TAP:
in Solar TAP we are focusing on the development and implementation of AgriPV with PV-industry, companies setting up AgriPV-systems, farmers, horticulturalists as well as in regulation and with public bodies. The target is to deliver this innovative solution for multi-benefit application utilizing the opportunity of double-use of land as well as benefits for crops
Uniqueness of Solar TAP:
Solar TAP offers options to link plant sciences with innovative renewable energy solutions. We thereby contribute to renewable energies as well as food security and sustainable bioeconomy and renewable resources as well as sustainable land use.
