Open day: Experience, discover, and participate in science!

When

7. September 2025
All day

Where

Forschungszentrum Jülich
Wilhelm-Johnen-Strasse, Jülich, 52429

On Sunday, 7 September 2025, Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) will open its doors to all interested visitors. Experience cutting-edge research up close and take an exclusive look behind the scenes of one of Europe’s largest research centres – a place not usually open to the public.

From scientific innovations to interactive hands-on experiments – Open Day offers fascinating insights into the world of research. Explore our green campus, which covers an area of over 1.7 square kilometres – the equivalent of around 238 football pitches. Located in the immediate vicinity of the town of Jülich, around 7,500 employees work here on solutions for the major social challenges of our time.

Research that shapes our future

How do supercomputers and quantum computers help in the development of AI, climate models, and new drugs? How can hydrogen technologies and innovative battery storage systems help drive the energy transition? What role do plastic-eating bacteria and sustainable cultivation methods play in the bioeconomy? And how do researchers unravel the secrets of the human brain using state-of-the-art imaging techniques? These and many other exciting questions will be the focus of Open Day.

Join in, explore, and be amazed!

Whether young or old – there is something for everyone to discover on Open Day! Young people can experience science in a playful way during a research rally, interactive experiments, and a spectacular science show. Schoolchildren and students also have the opportunity to find out about career opportunities in science.

Also featured: Solar TAP with exhibits
